OLA NO.1
After a year of necessary pause, reflection, and imagining of possible futures, it became essential to transform within the container of Olear. As a transitional gesture, and to honor the first wave and flow into the next, Tatiana, founder of Olear, created a sculptural candle of her nose and a roll-on oil with unused scent work created between 2017–2019.
In order to welcome this gentle shift, it became important to transform the old into something new. All the vials and bottles containing personal and client scent work were set aside to be blended. These were blended with curiosity and without expectation around what they would become. This allowed the process to inform the exploration of the nose, and to honor all that emerges––what was, what is, what will be. Undiluted scents, which included sketches, tests, and completed work were all blended together, and later went into A nose candles. Scent work that was already diluted was transformed into a new synergy, and later bottled as Ola no.1 roll-on scent.
The unique color of A nose and Ola no.1 comes solely from the aromatic compounds blended in each. These are a limited edition, and available for purchase together or separately.
A nose is a carefully-casted and hand-poured scented* candle of Olear’s founder’s nose. As someone working within the world of scent, Tatiana Godoy Betancur frequently received the label of “a nose”, which she felt uncomfortable with, but often found amusement in its pretentious sound and context. Engaging with the concept of a person making perfume being called a nose, this nose candle includes a blend of pure synergies and scent sketches of essential oils, absolutes, and enfleurages that Tatiana created during Ola no.1.
*Olear uses botanical scents, and scented candles made with these don’t have a good throw (how the scent circulates throughout a space). These candles are scented because each contains 8ml of botanical aromatic material, but they aren’t scented to fill a room with its scent.
Ola no.1 roll-on is a botanical scent made by combining unused and diluted samples created within Olear as an olfactory studio.
